A brief summary of why I chose this profession and what it means to me.

When I was young, a career as a chiropractor was the last thing on my mind. I embarked on my college journey at Brigham Young University (BYU) with a focus on Construction Management, believing that designing houses was my calling. My dad is a chiropractor, and I simply didn't have any interest in taking anatomy classes.

I completed my freshman year at BYU, fully immersed in my studies of Construction Management, but my life took a significant turn when I left to serve a two-year church mission. This experience not only shaped my character but also opened my eyes to the power of service and the importance of health and well-being.

While I was on my mission, the housing market crashed, leading to significant changes in the construction industry. When I returned to BYU, I found that my major in Construction Management was nearly dissolved, making me rethink my future. I had no desire to spend the next 5 years doing an undergrad, then going to a master's program with no guarantee of any job. This unexpected turn of events pushed me to explore new passions and eventually led me to change my major to Exercise Science, which is basically a Pre-Med program.

Once I began the Exercise Science major, Anatomy and Physiology were some of the first classes I enrolled in. Anatomy was hard, but I knew I needed to be strong with it in order to be successful. I eventually fell in love with the subject and it became second nature.

But that didn't really solve the career dilemma. I hopped around from profession to profession, trying to decide what I wanted to do. Eventually, I landed on Physical Therapy because I appreciated the systematic role of care and healing instead of just pushing pills. After a while, I realized that PT's and Chiro's can do a lot of the same things, and there is a lot of overlap. I also realized that I could have a guaranteed job if I went the chiro route because I could join my dad's practice in my hometown.

I eventually got accepted into Palmer College of Chiropractic - Florida Campus, which was an amazing experience. Ironically, I ended up tutoring and teaching anatomy to some of my classmates throughout all 6 anatomy labs.

I ended up graduating Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic and joined my dad's practice. I am forever grateful for his willingness to let me, a brand new doc, join his 20+ year business and learn. I love chiropractic. I love the power of being able to listen to a patient and know exactly what to do to help them. As chiropractors, we can't heal everything and that's ok...but what we can do is remove the interference and help patients' own body do the work.
